This course was built in the middle of Princeton University. There are many sand bunkers and trees throughout the course. The greens are small, and the fairways are narrow. The signature hole is #17, a 404-yard, par 4. There is water that comes into play on two holes. This club was originally founded in 1895 and has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. In addition, it was recognized by "GOLF Magazine" in their 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." William S. Flynn and Howard Toomey redesigned the course in 1938.

This is one of New Jerseys finest golf courses. With the addition of a new clubhouse and length to be added soon, the challenge of this track is only going to put more emphasis on shot-making. The staff is very personable, and has a vast understanding of how to make your golfing experience a great one. As for the course itself it has every shot that is called for from a power-fade on #15, to a drivable 300 yard 6th. But the best part of the course for myself is the par 3's. the 5th is a 195 downhill that has to carry 180 over a rivulet. The 7th is a well bunkered, back-to-front sloping, one-shotter. On the back you face the 180 yard 11th. The architect Flynn was very critical of his bunkering and it shows on this hole. As the course is well over 100 years old, that leads to many turns and breaks on the putting surfaces. The 11th is no exceprion on this hole. The final par 3 on this 6400 yard par 71 is somewhat remenicent of the hole known as,"the postage stamp". It is a 126 yard shot to a green sloped from back-to-front, and has to be hit very precise or a bogey is most certain to follow. Yardages are directly up the middle of the fairways and are generally located at about 100, 130, 160, 190, and 215 on every hole. Overall this golf course is my favorite and all who play it should leave with a feeling that they've just played a real American classic.

Beautiful trees highlight an excellent golf course. No two holes are the same. The greens are sloped just enough to make them challenging. Rarely more than a handful of groups on the course. This course is really a 5 star for the average golfer. Due to lack of distance, I rate it 4 stars overall.

Great little course and not nearly as easy as it appears. Narrow fairways and tiny greens. A real challenge and a lot of fun. Well maintained.
