This course opened for play in June, 1998, and is the fifteenth Tournament Players Club in the growing network of award-winning facilities. It was built on the 230-acre country estate of the late J. Seward Johnson of the Johnson & Johnson Company, and his widow, who provided the property for the development of the club. The layout is routed through eighty feet of elevation change and is framed by a variety of mature hardwood trees. The fairways have a variety of widths, some let you break out the driver while others will force you to keep it in the bag. The signature hole is #18, a 549-yard, par 5, which drops eighty feet down to the green. What distinguishes this facility as one of the most unique, elegant golf clubs in the world is the clubhouse. The Johnson's 46,000-square foot neoclassical mansion, built in the early 1970s, underwent an extensive eighteen-month transformation into a full-service facility. Significant changes included the conversion of the kitchen to commercial use, constructing the golf shop on what had been a garden, converting an exercise room and dance studio into a men's locker room, and creating a women's locker room out of what had been three guest suites. The mansion is adorned by a variety of gardens, including the bocci court surrounded by expansive, terraced gardens and a rose garden with reflecting pool. The estate also includes an orchid house that grows flowers year-round. Mrs. Johnson also contributed 18th century European paintings, handmade tapestries and other valuable artifacts that adorn her former residence. Due to the private nature of this facility, guest fees must be obtained from the pro shop.

I'll make this simple: If you get a chance to play this course, do so at any cost. Played from the middle tees, it's not a terribly challenging course. However, much of the front nine is quite picturesque, and the greens can fool you all around the track. Carved into private estate of J. Seward Johnson, the young course is quite mature for it's age, so to speak. The back 9 is rather boring up to the 15th hole, but 15-18 are very nice, and at times challenging. It's been a few years since I've played it, but I would suspect the grounds are not as pristine as they once were since there is no longer any Senior PGA Tour events held there. Also, the growing amount of corporate memberships, and subsequent heavy amount of play, was beginning to take a toll on alot of the landing areas and greens. Many of the charter members were on their way out when I finished my employment there because of the course's waning shape, heavy and slow play, and attention more to the corporate clients rather than the private members. None of this should take away from the staff at Jasna, or the course...both of which were top notch when I was there. A chance to tour the amazing clubhouse alone is almost worth the greens fee.
