local mini course, Aug 18, 2009
reviewer: boat salesman from Racine, WI
Shoop's best assets are view of Lake Michigan, low cost to residents and relative ease of tee times anytime of day. Course is not to be played after heavy rainfall as it tends to pool water on some holes and harbors mosquitoes that can leave a welt. However, it does dry quickly due to prevailing northeasterly winds right off the lake. Starts with a easy par 3 into the teeth of the wind shooting at the Lake from an elevated tee. Second hole is mini version of Pebble Beach #17 or #18 (the one that hugs the ocean with a slight dog leg). Beer is inexpensive at the proshop and course is maintained well for public course. Take time to breath the fresh Lake air and admire the vista of the Wind Point Lighthouse. Cheers.

Spinning Wheel Restaurant?, Feb 28, 2009
reviewer: Diane P. from Racine, WI
In response to the question about the area restaurant, maybe you are thinking about The Spinning Wheel on Douglas Avenue. It had wood floors and antique furnishings and great food. I haven't golfed Shoop Park for a long time (for health reasons) but I always thought the course was lovely, no matter how poorly I golfed! And the ninth hole - abutting the sandy beach, with the waves lapping not far behind! Memorable!

Scenic, May 30, 2008

This course is walking only and has some hills but the views along Lake Michigan are spectacular. It is a very nice little course and a nice change of pace from the typical. A "must play" course if you're in the Racine area

Many Years Ago, Sep 22, 2007

Back in the early 60's a bunch of us women, probably girls back then worked at American Motors in Milw. on the south side, got out of work and would race to Shoop Park to get 9 holes in before it got dark and to beat the 4:00 local crowd. We have talked about those days and the fun playing there many many times. The laughs and challenges of trying to get the ball to the green from the tee at the hole that was across the street and had the valley between the two. Seldom made it. Those of us still here were trying to think of the restaurant in the area that we would go to and it had great liver pate. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Was it called the Valley Supper Club?

"If I only lived closer", May 08, 2005
reviewer: Bruce A. Williams from West Allis, WI USA
When I was younger, and my dad was still around.. he told me about one of the oldest courses in Wisconsin; that being, Shoop Park.. Now my dad was Scotch/Irish and loved playing the "Highlands" kind of golf and even though the grass isn't reedlike and there are next to no bunkers or even that big a threat of water here; I found Shoop to be an interesting 9.. It has a number of holes that offer sidehill lies ...It also has 2 holes that give you a nice view of Wind Point and the green at hole #2 is at the very base of the lighthouse...OH, did I mention that the Wind Point lighthouse is ON Lake Michigan?? Anyway.. to make a long story short..I played it; some 25 years after my fathers' passing and found that for what you pay to play here, it's worth a 2nd & 3rd look .. I'd play it alot more often ...If only I lived closer.
