This desert course features narrow fairways lined by sage brush and a standard cut of rough. The small greens are undulating and fast, and the terrain is rolling. The signature hole is #14, a 512-yard, par 5, featuring two large strips of sage brush coming into play across the fairway, forcing golfers to hit accurate lay-up shots. There is a special nine hole rate available after 2 PM during the weekdays. Each of the tees are rated for both men and ladies.

Players Beware - Provide Your Own Water, Aug 26, 2007

I just played 9 holes today. The course is lovely, but there was only one hole with water provided. When I called the clubhouse, the pro said "they were not in the business of providing water." I was appalled. Richland averages temperatures from 80 to over 100 degrees in the summer. At $25/9 holes, the least they could provide is water.

Horn Rapids: An Oasis In The Desert, Jul 02, 2004

Horn Rapids Golf Course, located in Richland Washington, is a desert-style target course that can be played by the pro down to the novice. The course measures out at almost 7,000 yards from the back tees, but from the forward tees it drops down to 6300 yards. Horn Rapids is reminscent of Southwestern US golf courses, green lush fairways amongst sand and sagebrush. The course has a links look to it on several of its holes. Several of the holes are bunkered enough that ending up in them will surely raise your score. Getting wet only comes into play on the finishing hole on 18. Keith Foster's design primarily uses the desert as the greatest hazard, it can put a major dent in your final numbers if you travel to far off the fairway. The fairways ARE generous though. OB is not penalizing as it can be on some courses. A straight tee shot will be rewarded with a good lie. And once you get to the putting surface, be prepared to find the greens fair if not at times quite readable. Remember to watch the bentgrass grain, it will change from morning to late afternoon, moving a putt several inches from the same spot. Give Horn Rapids a try and enjoy!

Golfing with your eyes closed !, Jul 01, 2004

June 25,04. 100 degrees, great day. The main guy in the golf shop is very nice and helpful. The course? you could play with your eyes closed because there are so many blind shots. I saw the beverage cart girl three times, First time she waved and smiled at me and kept going, second time she waved and kept going, third time she did'nt look, wave or smile and never stopped. Good thing there was drinking water at the tee boxes. At the turn three juniors riding in one cart jumped in front of us onto #10. Waited on them the whole back nine.
