This course requires straight tee shots. The narrow fairways are tree lined, and the small greens are well bunkered. The James River comes into play on several holes. The signature hole is #15, a 225-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot from off an elevated tee box to a well-bunkered green thirty feet below. The 5,662-yard men's tee also has a ladies' course rating of 73.3 and a slope of 124.

A Classic Track That Requires Nerve and Precision, Oct 18, 2006

A favorite of single digit handicappers throughout the state, Willow Oaks is the perenial home to the Virginia State Open for good reason. With tons of character, small greens and few blind shots this course will have you asking, "what happened?" as you stroll off the 18th green. This parkland course, a true walkers paradise on less than 90 acres, is due to become even better following renovation by Lester George in 2007. Look for improved drainage and irrigation, a challenge in recent years, as well as a facelift and improved shot values on several holes.
