This course's narrow fairways are lined with mature cedar and oak trees. The terrain is hilly, and there are several natural hazards spread throughout the design. The greens are well bunkered and there are three ponds, a lake and a creek that come into play on nine holes. Hole #2, a 418-yard, par 4, is almost completely surrounded by water.

A Pleasant Surprise, Jan 25, 2009

| Played recently, and was pleased with the condition of the course, even in winter. Greens are tiered and painted (Bermuda), but very playable. You should be careful about where you land your tee shot, as fairways can slope severely and a "good shot" can roll off into the woods.
The staff was fantastic, and very helpful with local knowledge. A great buy at the high season rate of $50, but an AWESOME deal at the winter rates - $35.
If you're in the area, this is a must play course.

These reviews need to be updated. Ken Bortner bought the course from Lynn Young Nov 2005. Since then, he has:
1. Widened the hitting areas on the front 9. Trees are no longer in play, if you can keep the
ball in the fairway.
2. Totally rebuilt the first tee.
3. Totally rebuilt the seventh hole (par 3), new
green, new landscaping. It is gorgeous.
4. Added 5 tees to the ninth hole, making it a
par 4/5.
5. Built a pond and Rae's Creek style bridge on seventeen.
6. Totally revamped the course so that anyone who played before 2005 would no longer recognize it. Mike Connor has provided a special touch with his stone walls and steps everywhere they needed to be.
It is still a championship layout, a challenging eighteen holes, with no level spot to hit from, and undulating, fast greens. Cleghorn will let you know if you can play golf. |
