I played this course two times this year. Once in mid May and the last time late August. I have played 31 different courses around the state of Kansas this year and found only one course to been in worse shap than this course. They must have over 20 different varities of grass growing between the tee and greens. Never got the same lie twice on any hole. Incredibly frustrating to play. The course both times I played it, was beat up and no fun to play. How they say it is in such great condition I have no idea. The members obviously never play any other course. It is an embarassment compared to the beautiful club house and friendly staff.

We played about 15 different courses this summer, most rated 3 to 4 stars (by Golf Digest). This course has come a long way in the last 2 years and is a solid 3+ to 4 stars now- based on the courses we played for comparison purposes. The course was closed in mid 2004 for work and the results look great. Always found the staff friendly.

They have never been able to get the Zoysia to grow right here and it looks like they have done some reconstruction in the fairways. Hope it works. The tee boxes are atrocious, like hitting out of sand they are so covered with sand and thin. Staff was very standoffish especialy the drink server and the course is in poor condition if you ask me.

Pines Municipal Golf Course, The
"Tough for it's size"
I'm origianally from Toccoa and have played this golf course many many times. While only a 9 hole course, it is worth the money to play it. It is far less expensive than most golf corses and offers real challenges for even experienced golfers. The terrain is extremely hilly and almost every hole has an extreme change in elavation. The green's are extremely small and very very fast. During the summer the fairways and greens are fairly well manicured although winter play tends to be a little harder on some holes due to a harder fairways from less moisture. Fairways are extemely tight with hundreds of opportunities to lose balls in pine forests and a courseside lake on the last two holes. Overall, not an allstar course but for a quick, challenging, and inexpensive round well worth the time.

Highland Springs Golf Course
"Great couse."
This course is a great example of Ozark Mountain terrain. Flawless greens, oceans of water, and large greenside and fairway bunkers make this golf course a 5 star course. The layout is a bit easier than your traditional 5 star PGA Tour Championship courses. The Nike/Buy.com/whatever its name is this year tour uses this course each year for one of its tournaments and the players always remark on quality maintenance.

Wawonowin Country Club
"Hidden jewel"
This course is in the middle of the upper peninsula of Michigan. It is simply the best course I ever played for the money. Quick and true greens were very well maintained (How did they attract such a talented Superintendent). Very challenging holes that do not duplicate themselves. Laid back atmosphere--no pressures!

Wilshire Golf Club
"Good Challenge; Poor Conditions."
Wilshire is a challenge in disguise. With many decisions shots like weather to carry the creek on the first hole or whether or not to cut the corner off of the 17th. But the adverse course condidions can discourage most golfers that are looking for a challenge. Shabby fairways and greens give it a rough appearance but it is a good deal for the price.
