Long course in the wind, May 11, 2004

When the wind blows, you better bring your "A" game. This course is designed to be played with a south wind. However, when you get a north wind, some of the toughest par 4 get even tougher. Not a tight course and you won't lose any balls, but it is a fair test of golf. The course is ususally busy so you need to get a tee time in advance. They could also use a marshall on weekends to keep play moving. Nice course, great staff, lots of fun.

Chalet Hills Golf Club
"Challenging but Fair"
If you play the course right you will have to use every club in your bag. Variety of holes, no two are alike. Trees, bunkers, water, doglegs and hills, this course has it all. Beginners with a wild driver will have some trouble but will not have to hit over obstacles except for two greens surrounded by water. Staff is great and course is getting in better shape each year.

Glen Garden Golf & Country Club
"History"
Glen Garden is a great place for Golfers of all ages. Playing on the course, it is easy to see how it produced such greats as Hogan and Nelson. They have the classic postage stamp greens. You must be accurate with your approach shot or you will miss the green. It is a great course for beginners as there are relatively few holes where a bad shot will lose your ball. The pace of play is very relaxed and the course staff are over the top friendly. The only down side to Glen Garden is that when it was built it was out in the country (1912?). In the 1950's Fort Worth grew and houses went up all around the course. Unfortunately these houses we small wooden houses and over the years it has become the bad side of town. There have been huge efforts by the local population over the last ten years to clean things up but it will take time. I highly recommend a visit to Glen Garden for any golfer. If you have an interest in history you will find it fantastic to consider you are walking on holy grounds.

Spring Valley Golf Course
"A bit of paradise in the country"
This is a delightful 18 hole course located in the country, just outside of Livermore IA. Originally built as a 9 hole course and then expanded to 18. The course sits on what was once rolling pasture land with streams and small lakes coming into play on a number of holes. A few dog-leg holes with maturing trees offers plenty of challenge. Many planted flower beds make this course a visual delight.
