This course has a links-style design with very few trees in the layout. The course has been built in the rolling coastal foothills with several elevated greens and tees that call for many uphill and downhill shots. While the fairways are open, quite a few are narrow and sloped with environmental sensitive areas on the sides of the fairways from which you cannot retrieve your ball. There are several gullies and creeks that cross the fairways and require lay-up shots if you hit a short drive. Most of the greens are large with undulation and some are tiered. There are no fairway sand bunkers but some small ones are located around the greens. Wind in a factor most afternoons. The other tee shown is an additional men’s tee, which is also rated for ladies. There are several discounted green fees with a special rate for residents of San Luis Obispo County.

| Wow, what an awesome layout, particularly for a municipal course. Lots of trouble if you stray from the fairways, many lateral hazards. There are many very interesting holes and some incredibly elevated tees and greens. Great course all the way around. |

Above-average muni course, short but heavily slopped., May 10, 2004 |

| Normally maintained in a very playable condition, but beware of late summer when local weather leads to much drier conditions. When this happens it can be impossible to keep the ball in the fairway because of the slope regardless of where your tee shot lands. Afternoons can also be very windy at this location. This is a fairly young course without much in the way of trees, so almost any location on most holes is playable - it is difficult to get into any real trouble and therefore a great course for higher handicap players, the only exception being the environmentally protected areas which are out of bounds. The course is a bit short, even from the blue tees. Low handicap golfers can find themselves with several eagle putts during their round. Greens are normally in good shape, typical speed for a muni course, but the breaks can be very deceiving. They break toward the canyons regardless of how they might appear to breaking. |
