This course is considered by knowledgeable golfers to be one of the finest public golf facilities in southern Indiana. The back and front nines are notably different in appearance. The front nine holes are driver-friendly with large, well-bunkered greens. Even if you drive it well here, you still must avoid some well-placed hazards. The back nine holes are more indicative of the local landscape. While the fairways are tree lined, your approach shot will be the challenge on this side, with the hilly terrain making a level lie a rarity. The signature hole is #18, a 206-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to a well-bunkered green.

Improvements made, May 17, 2005

Golf Digest rated Christmas Lake GC as a four-star course. A few years ago it was rated one of Indiana's most challenging public courses. Among local golfers it has been well known that the rough and greens were in need of work. Extensive renovation has been completed over the past two years to remedy this. Until now carts had to stay on paths or fairways at all times. The front nine winds through Christmas Lake Village, a huge gated housing community. The back nine climbs up and down forested terrain where it is not atypical to have a family of deer attempting to play through your foursome. America's first theme park, Holiday World, is only two miles away.

Oakmont Country Club
"Tough but Fair"
Oakmont is a picturesque layout in the foothills of Glendale with lovely mountain views. The course is an old-style country club layout which rewards well planned out shotmaking. The greens are usually very fast and reward players for being below the hole. The Pac-10 Conference Championship was held at Oakmont in 2003 and only two players broke par (288) in a field of 50. The players found the par 3's particularly challenging. The greens are very well protected with sand bunkers and the fairways are heavily tree-lined. Best time to play Oakmont is in the spring and fall. I find the twelfth hole to be the most challenging. It is a 420 yard par four, uphill and terraced. The green is long and narrow, two-tiered and protected by a large bunker on the right and a drop-off hill and trees on the left.
