Sleepy Hollow Country Club - Eighteen Hole Course

This club has an eighteen hole course and a nine hole course. The Eighteen Hole Course has a beautiful view of the Hudson River. The greens are undulating and some are elevated. This hilly course has sand bunkers around the greens and on the fairways. Water hazards (ponds) come into play on four holes. The signature hole is #16, which has a great view of the Hudson River. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 18th "Best in State" course from 1995 through 1998. The Nine Hole Course has tree-lined fairways and is a good course for practicing your iron shots. The medium-sized greens are well-bunkered and slightly sloped. A. W. Tillinghast (1933), Tom Winton, Robert Trent Jones (1966) and Rees Jones have done redesigns on this course.

Nice to say you played it, but not nice to play, Aug 03, 2009 |

| The place looks amazing when you pull in, but it pretty much ends there. If you can tolerate the snob factor and get through 18, I commend you. If you get invited, don't take my word for it and by all means go play! Just don't say I didn't warn you. This is not luxury, this is just obnoxious. I am sorry to not give a more accurate, hole-by-hole analysis, but I just can't see past everything that came with it. |

| It should be mentioned that the course was originally designed by Charles Blair MacDonald. So it is a MacDonald course...not a Tillinghast course. |

| As a Brit abroad, I was lucky enough to receive a couple of invitations to play here. The whole experience was outstanding, from the service at the club to the course itself. The clubhouse is one of the more impressive around (probably only improved upon by my home course in the UK!). The track itself was in excellent condition and, as with other Tillinghast courses, was a good strategic challenge, although not as 'man-sized' as say Winged Foot West and Bethpage Black. More playable for someone of my ability and therefore perhaps as enjoyable. |
