TPC at Scottsdale - Stadium Course

This resort, which was named by "GOLF Magazine" to its 1998 list of "Silver Medal Resorts," has two regulation eighteen hole courses. The Stadium Course is a spacious layout fringed by saguaro cacti and mesquite trees, with a broad view of famed Pinnacle Peak to the north. This course can be quite a substantial challenge because of the mounds and bunkers strategically placed throughout its design. This course has a desert ambiance, but the natural terrain doesn't come into play. "Golf Digest" rated the Stadium Course as the 17th "Best in State" course for 1996. The Desert Course is more typical of a target course. It is shorter, but tighter than its sister course, and errant shots are likely to trickle into desert shrub. The PGA Phoenix Open is held every January on the Stadium Course. Golfers may walk the Desert Course, however carts are mandatory on the Stadium Course. There is also a giant practice facility that is frequented by PGA professionals Tom Lehman and Steve Jones. The Stadium Course was closed from June through October during 1997 to allow time for the greens to be renovated. Tee times can be reserved ninety days in advance on the Stadium Course.

Great course, not a great value, May 19, 2006
reviewer: Craig from Scottsdale, AZ USA
Played this course on a Wednesday in mid-May, with temps ranging from a tee-time 96 to an end of round 104. In spite of the heat, the course was in great shape, and the service was impeccable. My only complaint, and it's more about my game than about the course, was that the greens were tabletop fast. I absolutely could not get my putts to stop. OK, the only *real* complaint was the price (approx. $150/round now, $250 prime time, aka December thru March). However, 'value' is not a worry for most of the people who play here. Overall, the course wasn't easy, but it wasn't overly difficult either. There's some water, and some well-place bunkers, but the course is playable. You get the score you earn. The practice area is large and well-maintained, and the pro shop is also large and well outfitted. If price is not an concern, I heartily recommend this course; even if it is a concern, it's worth considering for a splurge.

Expensive but When in Rome...., Sep 05, 2005
reviewer: Y.F. Lara from North Bergen, NJ USA
My first trip to Arizona, a couples trip, included a one day stay in Scottsdale before heading up to Sedona. My golf buddy and I figured it'd be a great opportunity to hit up the famed TPC (while the wives hit the Spas and the stores). We thought about it twice after we found out that our 6:59 tee time would cost $200 per man. I'm glad that we decided to play because it was the first time that I broke 100 (95)- I had only gotten out to a course 4 times before so I was thrilled. Beware of the CROWES they will fly into your cart and fly away with your sandwiches or granola bars. As you would expect, the course is extremely well maintained and the staff is very professional. The clubhouse is comfortable, relaxing and welcoming, they will polish your shoes after you play, and you will have access to your own locker which is great if you want to shower after you play (saves you time if you're going to lunch after your round). This is the same course where in 1999 Phoenix Open Tiger Woods got help from the gallery on the 585 yard 13th, to move a boulder so he can take a direct shot from the desert and help him reach the green in two.
