This is a walking-only, links-style course that is located along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. The land was previously used as an Army base, with leftover toxic storage tanks, dilapidated runways and empty sheds making up the landscape. The designer put the land to good use, however. The fairways are forty to fifty yards wide, which helps when the wind kicks up off of the lake. The four par 3's sit along the coastline and are the most scenic holes on the course. "Golf Magazine" selected this course 37th on its 1999 list of the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S.'' "GOLFWEEK" selected it 11th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1999. Greens fees include caddies, however, gratuities are not included. The 6,450-yard men's tee also has a ladies' course rating of 78.1 and slope of 146. The 6,144-yard men's tee also has a ladies' course rating of 76.4 and slope of 142. The 5,381-yard ladies' tee also has a men's course rating of 66.9 and slope of 125.

great courses, May 28, 2004
reviewer: tom russell from ohio
every thing you would want in a links course. wind, rain, fog. i didn't have to travel 2000 miles to get it. the caddie i had was excellent. he only gave me the information i asked for. the view from 80% of the holes is breathtaking. i will be their for the pga in august to see what the pros can do with it.

Awsome Course, May 21, 2004
reviewer: Plover WI resident from Plover, WI USA
This course will be the home of the PGA championship in 2004, and the home of a future seniors championship. If all goes well it could also hold the Ryders Cup in the future.
