This hilly course has small greens that are well bunkered and sloped. The signature hole is #17, a 179-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot from off an extremely elevated tee box over both a stream and pond to a well-bunkered, postage stamp-sized green. The club has hosted numerous championships and has served as a qualifying site for the U.S. Open. The course was redesigned by Ed Ault and Al Jamison in 1960.

| This course is the opposite of many courses - it is relatively compact, unpretentious, has no houses between holes, and has no massive Clubhouse, but it is cozy, friendly, comfortable, and the course is a great test of golf. The holes are unique and hilly and the greens are not undulating, but tilted and difficult to putt but fair. They are mostly like upside-down bowls. The redesign in the 1990's made many holes much better and numbers 1,9,11,12,and 14 are especially notable and fun to play. Usually in the best shape of any course in the region - I've played it many times in about 3 hours. An outstanding club. |

Good Course But Play is Slow, Mar 24, 2004 |

| Yes, this is a little hidden gem. But like most found treasures there is a little flaw. Slow Play! Gosh, sometimes this course can slow down to a crawl. |

Hidden Gem, Feb 26, 2004 |

| Argyle Country Club is a little hidden gem that offers some challenging holes with a very lovely setting. The course starts off with a relatively easy par four but then you are faced with back to back par fives - never easy in the early part of a round! The sixth hole - the number one handicap - is deceptively challenging as is the par 3 seventh hole. Number nine is a nice front finishing hole. The back nine is quite beautiful with the number 12 par 5 offering a great view. Number 16 is a challenging dog leg leading to a stunning number 17 par 3, the "signature" hole. 18 is a great finishing hole leading to the clubhouse. Argyle is extremely affordable compared to other courses in the area. And, it never feels "stuffy." Enjoy! |
