This mountain course was cut out of a wooded area. There are many large hills that can cause uneven lies, and trees come into play on most holes. There are water hazards that comes into play on about half of the holes. The signature hole is #18, with a scenic view of the mountains and lake.

| Played with 2 others 9/29/07. Greens were unplayable. Montlake has always been a mediocre course, with very little upkeep, but it has always been playable. You could not have parked a golf cart anywhere on a green and not touched a dead patch. There was about a 80/30 ratio of dirt to grass on each green. And the green fees went up to well over the average for a round in this area, I guess to pay for the new computer system in the clubhouse. I live 3 miles from the course, but will not go back until I hear that they have put big $$ in to maintanence. |

| I play this course quite often, as I live very close-by. As of mid-2004, the fees are $26 with a cart, which is very VERY good for this area. It is a beautiful course, very interesting and forces a creative game.
Only 4 holes parallel each other, all others are either in or out of play on mostly narrow fairways, so accurate tee-shots are at a premium. There are many blind shots, several great risk/reward par 4s, and many holes that play other than what the yardage would suggest due to elevation changes.
The greens can be trecherous, and foil approach shots. Most are undulating and if you're not putting from below the hole, you're in for a bit of "fun". Large breaks and slick down-hills are the norm.
They generally keep it in very good condition. Due to its seclusion, it doesn't normally get very packed-- this is possibly the reason for the low rates. This is a quality course that rarely ever gets packed enough to slow your round. It plays harder than the yardage indicates. It will test your abilities, but is fair to the golfer. If you want to learn course-management, go here. These points, plus the beautiful scenery and low rates makes this 5 stars. |
