This Scottish links-style course was built on 220 acres of rolling terrain, woods and wetlands. The greens vary in size, but are relatively fast. Water hazards (wetlands and ponds) come into play on many holes. The signature hole is #16, a 137-yard, par 3, requiring a downhill tee shot from an elevated tee to a well-bunkered green that is surrounded by trees. The extra hole on this course is called "Super-Mulligan" because you can hack away to your heart's content, secure in the knowledge that nothing you do counts against your score. This hole derives its name from a stone set in the middle of the fairway. If you manage to hit the "Blackthorn Blarney Stone" with your tee shot, the reward is a free ball imprinted with the Blackthorn logo. This club hosted a U.S. Open qualifier in 1995. "Golf Digest rated this as the 4th "Best New Public Course" in America for 1995. In addition, "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 5th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and 20th best under the category of "America's Top 75 Affordable Courses." The same publication rated it as the 8th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. The Blackthorn Golf Academy is located on the premises. For more information, call (800) 450-4146.

Beautiful Course, Aug 06, 2004

This course is very scenic. Play the black tees if you are an average or better player. The course plays very easy from any other tee. I have played this course many times and find it easier than average when played from the white or green tees.

gorgeous, Aug 06, 2004

Having played Purgatory in Noblesville a week ago, and Blackberry in Coldwater,Mich. the week prior, I did not believe I could be further impressed. I was wrong! This is Blackberry with altitude (elevation changes)and no homes. This course is not tricked up like Purgatory. The rangers were somewhat unrealistic,("Pick up the pace!" even though we had a short wait on every tee for the group ahead), but the course is wonderfull!!! Maybe its because I'm from flat Ft. Wayne, but I truly enjoyed the hills. This is one beautifull course with wonderfull staff (ex. the rangers) and facilities. I am very much looking forward to playing this again
