This hilly course is extremely difficult because you must be able to hit the ball from a variety of different lies. Water hazards (ponds) come into play on four holes, and a scattering of trees can affect your shots.

Worth the Trip, Nov 02, 2009

I live in California, but whenever I visit North Carolina, Lakewood is a must play. The owners did a great job updating the course. The back tee boxes really changed the look of several holes. Now, instead of the blues being white tees plus a few, they are serious blue tees. If you haven't played Lakewood, or if you haven't played it since the Watkins brothers took over, you really should give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

The new owner is really making this a golf course you want to play, I think if you give him the time, this will be the best over-all course in Statesville.

I lived at this golf course for 20 years. My father was the golf pro. I love this course. It is a very hard course to play. The green are small and the fairways are narrow. We have 3 lakes on the course and sandtraps around every green but one. We are able to play year round. It is a work-out if you walk. Ladies par is 74. Come out and try the course out.
