This course was built on rolling hills and has narrow fairways. The small greens are fast. Water hazards come into play on ten holes. The signature hole is #11, a 193-yard, par 3, with water on the right and trees on the left. This course hosted regional qualifying rounds for the 1997 USGA Senior Open.

best course i have ever played, Oct 31, 2004

why dont they play the u.s. open here sometime. The length of the par 5's was amazing. Some of the par 4's are 3 shot holes. The 12th hole is only about 8 yards wide with out of bounds on both sides.

Piney Valley Golf Course
"Not too bad"
This golf course offers an exersise of the mental game and practice on accuracy. This course is one of the nicest in the area. The front nine offers chances to let loose and holes to decide what club to hit. The back nine is more flat yet a bit more difficult due to the mind set of trying to reach in two. This course is not a five because easyness and choices of veggitation and is not a four because of it being on a military base ( security check gates) however for someone who doesn't want to travel an hour or two away its nothing to complain about.

"good course for using all your clubs"
The front nine is narrow and short. A good drive and a short iron to the green and you will score well. The back nine is a completely different course than the front. Long open fairways for the long hitter and you will need your long irons or fairway woods to get you to the green.

Lufkin Country Club
"Very fun, and inexpensive."
This course is a very well kept secret in the old part of Lufkin, Texas. Not your upper tier type course but cheap for the quality. Fairways are very plush with just a very few spots that need work. And the greens, oh wow, possibly the best greens in the Lufkin-Nacogdoches area (including Crown Colony). It has the very challenging holes that you need to play cautious golf, and then it has the type of holes that you can attack with everything you have. When you finish this course, you will definately want to come back for more.

Pine Creek Golf Course
"Golfing guru makes spectacular analysis"
There are too many geese deficating on the fairways. Plus I found there to be only one hole per green. This proves to be much too challenging for novice golfers such as myself. Multiple holes and flags on each green would be a great improvement to your facility. Are the ponds really necessary? By filling them in with dirt it would provide golfers with more hitting surfaces. One tree per hole will suffice, too many trees takes the fun out of the game. Another suggestion would be to eliminate ob and thin all grass. Sand was much too sandy and loose. Doing away with the sand would draw more golfers with superior skills such as myself.
