Located on the banks of the Nansemond River, near the mouth of the James River, this 6,735 yard Tom Doak design takes full advantage of the local terrain. Tees are at ground level, the fairways are wide, and chipping areas are plentiful. Large deep bunkers defend undulating greens, and make shot-making crucial. All but three of the 18 holes are bordered by natural features, from tidal marshes skirting along its fairways or undulating greens at waters edge with beach bunkers on three sides. Mature pines, oaks and sycamores overhang the marsh, creating a picturesque design. A limited number of golf memberships are available, and golfers can reserve a tee time 24 hours a day. Discounts are available to full-time residents of the Norfolk / Virginia Beach, VA area.

| This is an extremely challenging course and is not for the fainthearted. It is beautiful, well-maintained and an all around grand course. All of the practice areas are well maintained. I have only played this course 3 times, but got my monies worth each and every time. |

| The Riverfront Golf Club may be the best keep secret in the Greater Hampton Roads area. After having a chance to play this course over 100 times I feel that I can really talk about this course since I call it home. I have played just about ever course in the hampton roads area and there is really no comparing the riverfront to any other course in the area, espically what they have to offer. First, the pratice facilty is second to none. One thing I love about the driving range is that the hitting area is so huge they can move the tees everyday and still have room left. The point being you are always hitting off a perfect groomed piece of turf. The putting green is always in wonderful condition and if that is not enough the pratice bunkers and chipping green are always in great shape. Well lets get to the best part the course. You will never need to wonder what your yardage is because they have GPS but if you do it is mark on the course anyways. The course offers such a challenge to ever skill level. However, I would not recommend this track to anyone carrying a handicape over 20. The greens on this course are good enough to hold a Pro Tournament espically a nationwide event. The first couple of holes really get you in a nice flow and then it hits you. Maybe the most challenging hole in the area the Par 4 #3 a crazy 483 yards dogleg right. Just to get a look at the green you need to bomb a 275 yard plus drive down the middle. So it is safe to say that you need to save your best drive of the day for this hole are you will be laying up on a par 4 for sure. With trouble short of the green and right in the form of a marsh hazard the only area to bail out on is to the left and that is not much of a bargin either. After recovering from that hole 4,5, and 6 give you a chance to recover with a couple of nice par 4's and a good par 3 in the middle . The par 4 seventh under the right conditions is driveable. |
