This eighteen hole course is Midwestern in style and is exemplified by its waterfalls and fountains. The course is relatively open and features a good mixture of shrubs and trees. The fairways and greens are generous in dimension and considered to be very user friendly. This course caters to both the low and high-end handicapper. The signature hole is #15, a 315-yard, par 4, which plays to an island green protected by a bunker. From the back tee, strategy calls for a well-placed iron shot, followed by a wedge on the approach. The second shot on this hole is considered a true test of skill.

| I played the North Course as the guest of a resident for $30. The course is well-maintained with wide fairways and a fairly forgiving rough. However, if you hit into the desert or into someone's yard (this course, like the South Course, winds through a housing development) you may have some difficulty getting back onto fairway. The fairways are hilly, and the greens undulate, and they are FAST (at least today they were). Lots of fairway bunkers and bunkers around the greens, so while this isn't a difficult course, it isn't easy, either. The toughest for me was the 18th. It's a 500+ yard par 5 with water in front of and behind the green, and bunkers on the sides. Most people have to lay up their approach shot, then chip over the water onto the green. Then there's me. At 170 yards out, I went straight at the pin. The ball bounded off the green and into the backside water. Oops. :) Should have listened to the other folks in the foursome. As with most courses, there is a decent proshop (nothing spectacular) a restaurant/snack bar, and a practice area. The housing development caters to retirees and near-retirees, so the snackcart girl was 'mature' (but really pleasant). My biggest complaint with the course was the distance between the holes, necessitated by houses.
Overall, a good value for the money - the course is challenging yet forgiving, and some of the views are great. While there are better courses in metro Phoenix, there are more that are worse. |

| I played the South Course and for a course smack dab in the middle of a community, it was surprisingly long and wide. The fairways were beautifully maintained and the greens were not bad either. It was a very scenic course that really rewarded the straight shooter off the tee. The rough was cut low so if you were to stray of the fairway, you still had a decent lie. for the price, it is one of the nicest courses in Surprise. The North Course is my next round and it looks to be just as nice. |
