This course is mostly level except for a mound on hole #6. The fairways are open and most of the shots are straightaway. The reasonable rates and small crowds encourage people to come back. There are two ponds that come into play on two or three holes. Hole #6, a 596-yard, par 5, requires a shot over water.

A Good, Cheap course for students, Sep 06, 2004

Jake Gaither is a nice, 9 hole course in south Tallahassee just off Orange Avenue. The tee boxes were a little rough, and the greens too, but the fairways were in pretty good shape. All in all this was a nice course and fairly challenging. For students, its a real good deal...16$ i believe. #6 (i believe) is a 600 yd. par 5, the toughest hole on the course. Give it a shot.

I learned to play golf at Jake Gaither. Everyone knows who is on the green at any given time. There is a sense of community there and that is the course in Tallahassee in which I feel most comforatable.

Piney Valley Golf Course
"Not too bad"
This golf course offers an exersise of the mental game and practice on accuracy. This course is one of the nicest in the area. The front nine offers chances to let loose and holes to decide what club to hit. The back nine is more flat yet a bit more difficult due to the mind set of trying to reach in two. This course is not a five because easyness and choices of veggitation and is not a four because of it being on a military base ( security check gates) however for someone who doesn't want to travel an hour or two away its nothing to complain about.

Mill Creek Golf Club
"Living and Playing Mill Creek"
I chose to live in the Mill Creek Community after playing Mill Creek Golf Course. The course is long enough to challenge the low handicapper while allowing the average golfer to handily compete. While each hole presents its unique challenge, holes 7, 9, and 15 can be particularly formidable. Hole 7 is a reasonably short par 4, just 326 yards from the white tees and 400 yards from the championship tees, but take the ball out of the fairway -- kiss it good bye. Hole 9 (359 yards from the white tees and 439 from the championship tees) commands distance and accuracy from the tee if one expects to reach the green in two. A bed of rocks to the left of the fairway, woods to the right, and a ravine paralleling its length on the left with a wide ditch crossing the fairway about 50 yards from the green, simply command excellent club selection. Hole 15 and be a pussy cat or a bear. Wind in your face requires a long wood. Wind with you, and a five iron may place your ball in a 50 yard water and grass hazzard which crosses the fairway about 100 yards from the green. The entire course undulates and winds through just over 7000 yards from the championship tees. The fairways allow the ball to be played down while the bent greens firmness can cause many putter miscalulations. All in all, this is a great course -- especially at fees ranging from $39 - $59, cart included.
