Friendly wide open course, Apr 22, 2004

Great staff and wide open layout make this course a great place for golfers of all skill levels. New trees planted in the rough will make this course play much more difficult in the coming years. They are allready starting to have an effect on play. Greens need some work. But nothing that a little extra attention and people repairing their own ball marks won't fix.

This golf course was in great shape. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. The clubhouse is very historic and very clean.This is a must play course!

For a fast round of 9-holes this course is very enjoyable, and actually quite challenging. The greens are all in good condition throught the year, and so are the fairways. Par 3's range from 90-yards to 205-yards, and the par 4s are long enough where you can hit driver and/or 3-wood. Wonderful practice putting green surrounding water and driving range is also nice. For the price and convenience of walking on without a long wait, it's a winner in my book.

"Champion Hills - great place to play or to live"
The course is spectacular, both in scenery and in the variety of play that can be had -- from novice to expert. Tom Fasio did a great job, using natural elements beautifully. Watch out for the 4" rough! It is lush and can eat your balls so magically that they can NOT be found. Course management is excellent. Hazards are well maintained as are the fairways and greens. Most of the T-boxes are elevated and the views in the valleys include small waterfalls, hardwoods, mountain laurel and rhododendron covered hills with mountain vistas all around. The clubhouse offers wonderful sunsets and terrific food. Excellent additional amenities like a health club, tennis, practice areas. VERY nice bungalos for lease, nearby B&B, charming small town. Close to Asheville, Biltmore House, Grandfather Mountain, Greenville/Spartanburg airport, Appalachian Trail... We really love this area and this particular course.
