This well-maintained course features wide fairways laid out on hilly, New England terrain. There is section of the Merrimack River that comes into play on several holes. A delicate tee shot is needed on hole #15, a 195-yard, par 3, requiring a shot from a 75-foot cliff to a large green that is surrounded by four bunkers, the Merrimack River and the Trull Brook.

Goofy layout. Lots of hills. Too many similar dogleg holes to keep track of. Some drives play through the narrowest chutes that public golf can offer. Greens shaggy, slow and bumpy. I did not enjoy this course.

The course is very nice but the staff working there are a pain in the ass. They are always on you to hurry up, hurry up. On one occasion we where standing on the tee at a par 3 and there where people on the green and one of there brilliant marshals comes up to us and tells us we will have to hurry our play up. Guess we where suppposed to hit into the foursome in front of us.

Enough is enough, Aug 15, 2006
reviewer: Gus from Lowell, MA
I asked my brother if he wanted to play golf on Sunday. He suggested that we play Trull in the afternoon because they have a twilight rate. I called Trull, which said that twilight starts at 3, and that they allegedly do not take T times after 3 -- it's first come, first serve. So, we show up at 2:35 thinking we'll be the first ones off at 3. Although there is literally no one else in the club house or on the putting greens, the guy tell me there are 6 foursomes ahead of us (he said they checked in ahead of us -- they must have decided to hang out in the woods until they teed off) and that we'd be going off at 3:40. He shows me the list with the 6 foursomes' names, and writes my name at the bottom of the list (which puts us 7th in line to tee off after 3). Fine. We paid, and hung out and putted. We also rented a cart for only 9 holes because allegedly carts have to be back to the pro shop by 7:50 sharp, and based on what we were told was a very slow pace of play, we figured we'd be on say the 15th hole at 7:50 and didn't want to have to cut our round short to drive the cart back. Thus, we planned to ride for the front nine, and walk the back 9. My brother's buddy who lives about 1/2 mile down the street from the course called said he was going to join us. I told the guys in the club house (at around 3pm) that we now had three golfers. No problem. At 3:35 our buddy arrives and pays. At the same time, my bro and I head up to the first tee to claim our spot for 3:40. The starter shows me his list and tells us there are about 4 or 5 groups ahead of us. His list has about 10-12 post 3pm groups ahead of us, as opposed to the list in the pro shop that showed only 6. He proceeds to call several groups that I watched arrived 20-30 minutes after us. Pissed, I head down to the pro shop to see what's up. It's now about 4:05. The guy in the pro shop tells me that all of those groups were all ahead of us. I tell him he's crazy. He calls the starter to compare lists, and the starter reads off about 5 names that came after us (and are listed below my name on the pro shop's list of post 3pm golfers). The pro shop guy then says, "well, your third guy didn't pay until 3:35, so that's why you dropped in the order." Livid, I tell him "that's not how it works. You don't get dropped in the order (much less 5 spots) if one guy hasn't paid. If that's what you planned on doing, you could have said something to me in the hour and a half I was there, and I would have paid for the guy myself to assure that we'd get off at 3:40." I lamented about having golfed there for over 20 years, and I couldn't understand why they wouldn't do me the courtesy of stepping 5 feet outside the door and ask for $ before dropping us in the batting order. This made no sense, was discourteous and directly contrary to him telling me, 2 seconds earlier, that the other groups showed up before us. The guy offers me a rain check, to which I reply, I've been here for an hour and a half, I don't want a rain check, I want you to get me off the T now. He obliges and we're the next group to hit. Still fuming, I proceed to double two of the first three holes. By the way, did I mention that the two groups that teed off just before us each had 2 lady golfers... who were walking! Eventually, I settle down and actually get on a string of pars and birdies from 6 thru 9, and put the mishap in the pro shop behind me. When we reach the 9th green, we see that there is no one in front of us on the next few holes. Rather than drive all the way back to the club house to pay to use the cart for the back nine, because we're rushing to get the final 9 holes in, we press on, figuring that we'll pay the difference to the guy we give the cart back to at 7:50. While on the 10th green, an old buck from the pro shop drives up. I immediately tell him we owe him a few bucks for using the cart on the back 9, and ask him how much I owe him. He tells me I only paid for the cart 9 holes. I respond that I know that, and that I want to pay him the difference. He tells me he won't take my money, and that I have to drive back to the pro shop and settle things there. I am now losing my mind. I drive all the way back to the pro shop and have the same argument with the guy there. He keeps repeating that I only paid for the cart for 9 holes. I finally reach the point of almost screaming at him saying all I want to do is to pay you more money so that I can use the frigging cart for another 9 holes. How much do I owe you? After repeating this 4 or 5 times, the guy finally says - "10 bucks." I throw down a ten, jump back in the cart and play the back nine. We end up getting 18 in, arriving back at the pro shop at exactly 7:50. Ironically, there's not a soul there to pick up our cart. Nice course, awful staff.
