This traditional course, located near the Mexico border, sits about 3,500 feet above sea level. Some scenes from the movie "Tin Cup" were filmed here. There is water that comes into play on at least three holes. The fairways are fairly open, but there are hundreds of trees on the course. The signature hole is #8, a 185-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water. If you want to walk the course, a pull cart can be provided at no cost. There are beautiful views of the Santa Cruz River on the back nine. America's Favorite Golf School is located on the premises.

Played down at the Tubac Resort March/07. Drove down from Tucson and I don't think it was worth the drive. Tubac is simply a flat, old style course that makes you think you are anywhere but the desert. They have a few new desert-style holes (Anza course) which were great but after five holes your back to the old ho-hum. Too many good courses in Tucson. Save the gas and the travel time.

"Westwinds - A shot makers course"
Bring every club in your bag and put your thinking cap on before coming to this course. Best bet is to go out with a member or get a yardage book and stay on track for a 4 hour round. Best quote out on the golf course - "I'll either play over you, around you or through you, you take your pick."

Ferncroft Country Club - Championship Course

I've placed hundreds of courses in this country and Ferncroft for a resort club is one of the better places to play! For a private resort the cost of greens fees are perhaps a bit expensive, but you have to willling to pay to play one of the better well run courses in the area! The Bent grass on the fairways and greens are always well maintained. The layout is challenging for a course of just over 6,600 yards from the tips. They've just rebuilt the 3rd Green and 4th Tee. From time to time depending on the season they may have some standing water issues. From what I've been told by the Director of Golf they are taking care of this in the near future with a new irrigation system.

Chickasaw Pointe Golf Resort
"Best Public Course in the Southwest"
This golf course is quite different from any state course, or other public course I have ever played. The staff treats you like royalty right when you arrive. The cart attendants load and unload your clubs at the door. The club pros are very courteous. The course is located on the shores of Lake Texhoma, the biggest lake in Texas or Oklahoma. The layout is amazing, with the lake bordering 15 holes. It is very challenging, and very fun. This plot is some of the most beautiful, rolling terrain in all of Oklahoma. The greens are fast, with deceptive undulation, but they are still forgiving enough for the average hacker to enjoy the play along with the scenery. This was a GREAT day of golf. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys challenging golf or just a nice day in a beautiful country atmosphere.

Riviera Country Club
"Challenging but fair!"
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Nice menu in the grill and good pricing to start things off. Best time to play is May through September when the trees are full. Very pretty course and very well maintained. Hole one opens with an easy dogleg right followed by a long par five with water twice in play for #2. #3 is a short par four, followed by a tricky little par 3 where the wind really comes into play. Next up is a fun par four that the truly big hitters may want to try and drive. A solid par 5 follows to an elevated green, followed by another easy dogleg right, a very long par 5 and finishing with a par 3 over water where the wind is scary at times. Back nine is similarly diverse and fun to play especially #16, a sweet par 3 peninsula green over water. Number 10 is a tricky par 5, followed by an easy par 4 with water and rocks to the right. Next up is a 210-yard (white tees) par 3, and an elevated tee par 4 over two creeks. The number 1 handicap hole is next, a long, but straight par 5 with water in the center and right of the fairway. Next is a long and interesting par 4. After #16, 17 is another par 4 with water on three sides of the green. Number 18 finishing hole is a nice par 4 with the clubhouse behind it. It was a joy to play here -- not crowded at all and we finsihed our round in 4 hours 30 minutes.
