The most difficult feature of this course are the greens, their subtle breaks make them very difficult to read. In addition, many of the greens are multi-tiered. This course has wide fairways, and a few trees that can alter your shots. On the back nine, the fairways are more undulating because of the mounding on the sides. The signature hole is #11, a 170-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to a small green. This hole has two bunkers in front of the green and waterfalls cascading down each side. The driving range switches to mats on the weekends, and on certain days you are allowed to walk the course at the pro's discretion. Their caddie program is believed to be the first of its kind at a public course in California that isn't tied to a large resort. The club offers a twilight rate on weekdays and weekends. The rate begins four and a half hours before sunset. On Monday, there is a senior rate in effect during the first two hours of play. A new golf school opened at the facility in 1996.

"A nice short course"
I have played this golf course for the last 10 years, 2 to 5 times each year at various time, usually in the winter. Sandpiper is a short course with plenty of par 3's and short par 4's. The layout makes for a slow round on the front side on a busy day. It usually opens up on the back, which is the better 9 holes. Greens are in good condition year round. Course gets more play in the winter when the ajoining retirement community is fully occupied. Long hitters have no advantage as any long drive (250 or more) puts you too close to the greens. Use irons and 4 woods off most of the tees. Any drive 200 yards down the middle is great for this course. Some holes feel too close to the homes. Can be a real challenge when windy.

"Private Passion"
This is a terrific course that offers golfers of all abilities a challenge. Beautiful views, great greens and terrific golf. Many of the par 4's will challenge a good ball striker to go for the green...be careful, it's not as passive as it looks. The 5's are all long and offer plenty of scoring opportunities. Wide fairways but small greens make the approach shots important. The greens are smallish and require respectable shot making...practice your short game before playing..Be sharp! The new clubhouse, open summer 2004, will be a terrific improvement. It's going to be massive and it will certanly be beautiful.
