DO NOT GO NEAR, Jul 25, 2011

reviewer: Run away as fast as you can. from San Diego

Course is unplayable! Absolutely no upkeep has been performed in what looks like years. Clubhouse is in a filthy condition. Service by Al and Jerry is the most disturbing of this operation. Expect the worst golf experience of your life and you will not be disappointed.

Owner/managers Al and Jerry have brought the worst of thier used car salesman backgrounds to the golf course. Not only has the course been allowed to fall into complete dissaray, the service provided in the clubhouse is disgusting. These 2 slimeballs have put a haze of creepiness over the entire operation. Do not let yourself be fooled by the words "golf course". This dump may lead you to never wanting to see 29 Palms again. Play on base, do not get ripped off.

reviewer: warning creeps work here from southern california

The only reason this is rated with one star is because it is the lowest available rating. I cannot emphasize how bad the experience was. Al and jerry are the managers and are as creepy as any used car salesmen could be. The condition of the course as gone to crap. No money to maintain the course has been spent. Filthy, dirty, clubhouse fits prefectly with the personalities of these two nasty individuals. Don't go there.

Oakmont Country Club
"Tough but Fair"
Oakmont is a picturesque layout in the foothills of Glendale with lovely mountain views. The course is an old-style country club layout which rewards well planned out shotmaking. The greens are usually very fast and reward players for being below the hole. The Pac-10 Conference Championship was held at Oakmont in 2003 and only two players broke par (288) in a field of 50. The players found the par 3's particularly challenging. The greens are very well protected with sand bunkers and the fairways are heavily tree-lined. Best time to play Oakmont is in the spring and fall. I find the twelfth hole to be the most challenging. It is a 420 yard par four, uphill and terraced. The green is long and narrow, two-tiered and protected by a large bunker on the right and a drop-off hill and trees on the left.

A course perhaps more friendly for the long-ball hitter with more than enough water and some deviously placed sand. Access to the course requires a military affiliation or a friend who can host your play but, well worth the trip. Given its location (on base), play is seldom hampered by a crowded course which also makes it a most hospitable course for the slower player, the short ball hitter or those just learning the game. The placement of water (ponds and streams) makes for an interesting attack plan and invites disaster for the reckless. Improved traps, general landscaping and more attention to tee boxes and greens over the past two seasons has made the course much more enjoyable. The first six holes are a low rolling layout with a lot of trees in play along the fairways. The rest of the course is basically flat with several holes playing parallel to the runway and an occasional aircraft take-off or landing adding to the view. Course amenities are well maintained. Walk, pull a cart or ride in a relatively new electric cart. The golf carts are in great shape and an adjacent driving range is a plus for tuning up before hitting off of the first tee. The clubhouse has a small grill for lunch with a comfortable seating area for a beer after the game. The pro shop is equipped to handle most needs.
