This course is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The front nine on this well-manicured layout is a links-style design, whereas the back nine is more traditional because it was cut out of a forest. The signature hole is #16, a 533-yard, par 5, featuring a double dogleg fairway and fifteen sand bunkers. Water hazards only come into play on the front nine. Seventy percent of all the sand and grass bunkers are clustered near the greens. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 5th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996. The same publication gave it the ranking of 3rd "Best in State" for 1995-96, and 7th best for 1997-98. GOLF Magazine" chose this course 99th in the category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1998. In addition, "GOLFWEEK" awarded it 91st among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 95th in 1998 and 93rd for 1999.

overrated, Oct 11, 2008

This is the most overrated course in the state. Unless you are a University big shot, or a local known golfer, the staff is flat out rude(with the exception of the kids cleaning your clubs looking for tips). The greens are usually beat up from overplay, and the prices are insulting. I regularly get e-mails for their "customer appreciation day" which consists of a box lunch and 18 w/ cart for $65-75. There are courses in the area I think are of better quality or at least in better condition(see Bergamont, Hawks Landing, Oaks...), who actually appreciate your business and offer a reasonable rate including early birds or twilights. Skip It!

I love the Ridge!, May 04, 2005

Challenging course but it's sheer greatness more than make up for it. The UW System student discount is amazing but I'd be willing to pay full price once in a while just to play this course.
