Falcon Dunes Golf Course15100 W Nern Ave Waddell, AZ 85355 Phone: (623)535-8355Fax: (623)535-8357
This eighteen hole military course is widely regarded as the flagship of Air Force golf courses. Prior to 1997, Luke Air Force Base did not have a golf course. Over 700,000 cubic feet of earth was moved to form the contour and character of this once nondescript desert area. The course is links-style with a natural desert floor look and natural desert vegetation between fairways. The greens are large, with the exception of the par 5's, and are moderately undulating. There are a great deal of elevation changes throughout the course, unlike most Arizona courses. Accuracy is a must due to an abundance of natural vegetation that skirts the fairways. The signature hole is #14, a 401-yard, par 4, which rests at the course's highest elevation and boasts a spectacular view of the Estrella Mountains. The green is guarded on the left by a lake and a huge sand bunker. This course is open to all active-duty and retired military personnel and any Federal employee. Guests must be accompanied by a member.

An Arizona Golf Secret, Jul 27, 2006

| It's no great secret that the Air Force has a number of great courses - and this is at the top of the list. Relatively young, this track was carved out of a square mile of farm land near the N/W corner of Luke AFB. It is nicely laid-out and once on the course, you would never know it was once flat and tilled. The course is well maintained and of moderate difficulty. The best part is that during the week, it's relatively open and uncrowded - a luxury in Phoenix.

This has got to be among the best courses in all of Arizona., Apr 28, 2004

| I was stationed at Luke AFB in 1985-87 and could never have imaged a golf course like this could have been constructed there. This golf course is a well-maintained, challenging, and hilly course. Do yourself a favor and plan to use an electric riding cart for your round, you will need it. There are plenty of areas to get into trouble and if you are not a good course manager, plan to take a lot of penalty strokes. The golf course is actually off base but is situated just past the end of the runway, so there are a lot of low flying (and quite loud) F-16s overhead during the weekdays. I was a civilian guest last time I played there and the green fees were consistant with fees for a nice public course with a similar stature and were reasonably affordable. This is an incredibly inexpensive deal for military ID card holders and retirees. |
