GREAT COARSE REQUIRES SKILL, May 30, 2008

Washington CC is really nice with lots of different patterns of play. TWO par 3's both up hill and one with a slight dogleg left. The greens are really challenging and will truely put your putting to the test. There are two par fives with one starting from an awesome tee box. If you play the shot right you can easily get an extra 50 yards just because your hitting from the top of a hill. There are also some extremely difficult par 4's. . . some could be par 5's because they are so long. Most people are hitting long irons or woods on their second shots. Also it has a pool and nice club house as well as pro shop.

"Upscale heading Downscale"
This course has so much potential. As it stands it is still one of the best courses in Houston for one thing and one thing only: Greens. It is just unfortunate that it has changed management hands several times in the last few years. In the process, each regime has focused on different things. Mostly cutting back on what the previous management did. No overseeding fairways in winter, Sand bunkers that qualify as gumbo bunkers, No restrooms on course, carts that badly need replacement. To compete with area course price points, they have dropped their average rates. What this means is more course play with less revenue. Couple this with the fact that there is less maintenance staff and no one fills in divots. Looks like a bombing campaign afterphoto on some fairways. The claim to fame is "Best greens in Houston". While this may still be true, the overall package is declining. I am concerned that even the greens may suffer as a consequence of the extra play and reduced maintenance. They used to put balls out on the range, but no more. They have some funky bag system where you lug these large red bags to the range with you. It could be so much better. Aesthetics are an afterthought. Actually, no one is thinking of aesthetics at all. I think they just keep thinking they can coast on the fumes of the reputation of their greens. Their slogan when the club opened 6 years ago was "Country Club for a day". An updated version would be more like "Mcgolf with your redneck buddies for a day".

Palm Royale Country Club
"Little Jewel"
My rating is based against other courses of this size and type. The course was immaculate and the greens quick and true. The entire grounds were gorgeous, well watered with no brown spots at all. A real pleasure to play.

Greystone Golf Club
"Best in the Tri-County Area"
Greystone Golf Club has been a home course to me for over six years. I have been impressed by its development and maturity over this time. The lay-out of the course is phenominal. Within a 20 mile radius of the club there are countless places to play, and Greystone is by far the most beautiful and challanging of them all. I have played alot of golf in South-East Michigan, this includeds public and private clubs, and Greystone is and always will be my #1 place to play. The motto is "The Best Finish In Michigan Golf", and how true it is. Why not 5 stars? Nothings perfect!

Gibson Woods Golf Course
"Great public course"
Gibson Woods is a challenging public golf course in Monmouth, IL. It is a mature course that challenges the golfer to play the fairway on most holes. The course features lots of trees, some water, and some elevated greens. The course favors the accurate golfer more than the long ball hitter. Although an accurate long ball hitter will consistently score well here. The course is very well maintained, has a driving range, and is generally only crowded on weekends.
