This is a unique course for this area because it is quite hilly. The greens are large and undulating, and the mounded fairways provide generous landing areas. Water hazards (ponds) come into play on four holes. The signature hole is #18, a 415-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg left fairway that bends around a lake with large mounds on the right, then an approach shot to a large green featuring a three-fingered bunker protecting the front. A full-service driving range is available where group and private lessons are available. The clubhouse was named after state Rep. Harry D. Nixon, who was instrumental in getting the course built.

"Hilly experience"
This course is fairly tight with large greens that are exquisite. They roll very well and are extremely undulating....making for putting challenges. Even though the length is about 6200 yds from the back tees, it plays a lot longer than that due to the hills, large greens, and abundant sand.

Ferncroft Country Club - Championship Course

I've placed hundreds of courses in this country and Ferncroft for a resort club is one of the better places to play! For a private resort the cost of greens fees are perhaps a bit expensive, but you have to willling to pay to play one of the better well run courses in the area! The Bent grass on the fairways and greens are always well maintained. The layout is challenging for a course of just over 6,600 yards from the tips. They've just rebuilt the 3rd Green and 4th Tee. From time to time depending on the season they may have some standing water issues. From what I've been told by the Director of Golf they are taking care of this in the near future with a new irrigation system.

McPherson Country Club
"MCC was a tough little course"
I played in a Tourney there in June. It is a short course but one that demands shaping shots. MCC has postage stamp greens that are sloped and at times faster than any greens you will find anywhere. It is not uncommon to 3 or 4 whack on these greens that were well manicured. MCC is not your typical golf course but thats what makes it tough and fun. Bring your nerves cause this course is not a push-over to score low on.
