This facility has three great courses. The Red Course is an eighteen hole course with narrow tree-lined fairways and small greens. The White Course is a regulation nine hole course, and the Blue Course is an executive course. Both the White and Blue courses have wide-open fairways and medium-sized greens that are undulating. The terrain varies in undulation, and there are water hazards coming into play on all three courses.

It's a decent public course, though there are a couple better ones in the greater Des Moines Area (i.e. Beaver Creek and Jester Park, these courses are public too, but they're about a half hour drive north of West Des Moines). The course is well maintained and offers some challenging holes. If you're just visiting Des Moines and can't visit any of the private clubs, Willow Creek is just a short drive from the airport.

"Splendid"
Absolutely the best public golf course within 100 miles of St. Louis. Seems like your playing well (Haven't lost a ball, no penalty stokes) then you add em up and you're half a dozen worse than usual. Great views, no waits.

"Weekend Excursion"
It's the offseason now and we've just returned from 27 holes at Tamahka Trails. The rate was very reasonable, service second to none and the course ... well this old cajun boy has never played a finer course in his life and may never still. The people made us feel as though we never left our home town. They treat you with kindness and respect, catering to your every whim. Let me tell you it was one of the very best golf outings I've ever had (and plan to have again). If you would like to experience golf as it should be ... try Tamahka Trails. You won't be disappointed. And by the way ... for a course this nice the seasonal rates are good also. See you there ...

Sandpiper Golf & Country Club
"A nice short course"
I have played this golf course for the last 10 years, 2 to 5 times each year at various time, usually in the winter. Sandpiper is a short course with plenty of par 3's and short par 4's. The layout makes for a slow round on the front side on a busy day. It usually opens up on the back, which is the better 9 holes. Greens are in good condition year round. Course gets more play in the winter when the ajoining retirement community is fully occupied. Long hitters have no advantage as any long drive (250 or more) puts you too close to the greens. Use irons and 4 woods off most of the tees. Any drive 200 yards down the middle is great for this course. Some holes feel too close to the homes. Can be a real challenge when windy.

Sunset Hill Golf Club
"Sunset is an awesome course!"
Sunset Hill is an awesome course. I play on a high school golf team, and its our practice course. But after season is over, we have to start paying to play golf again. The one thing that Sunset is good for is that it's cheap and reliable. I as a high school athelete, don't feel like paying 50 dollars to go play some course with a tee time that is just horrible. Sunset on the other hand has a low price thats friendly to the everyday golfer. So it might not be in the best shape, but its fun to play because there is no rush and its cheap to play. All in all, its an awesome course!
