This course's fairways are wide and tree lined. Water hazards come into play on four holes, including the signature hole, #6, a 408-yard, par 4, which requires a blind tee shot, then an approach shot over a stream to the green. The Massachusetts Golf Association has rated this as the second hardest hole in western Massachusetts.

"A womans point of preference"
Very challenging course for women. Men are impressed with women who can hit stright drives and consistant fairway shots onto the green. Men have a problem at Knollwood because of their ego gets the better of them.

Ferncroft Country Club - Championship Course

I've placed hundreds of courses in this country and Ferncroft for a resort club is one of the better places to play! For a private resort the cost of greens fees are perhaps a bit expensive, but you have to willling to pay to play one of the better well run courses in the area! The Bent grass on the fairways and greens are always well maintained. The layout is challenging for a course of just over 6,600 yards from the tips. They've just rebuilt the 3rd Green and 4th Tee. From time to time depending on the season they may have some standing water issues. From what I've been told by the Director of Golf they are taking care of this in the near future with a new irrigation system.

This course used to be one 1 star course but they have worked hard to make the course 2 stars. The greens are much nicer than a year ago. this course is good for learning the game, it's a very easy course.
