Mercer Oaks Golf Course

This course, located adjacent to the Mercer County Park, was built on slightly rolling terrain that is easy to walk. Water hazards come into play on four holes, and numerous sand bunkers have been well positioned throughout the course's design. The signature hole is #17, a 405-yard, par 4, requiring an accurate tee shot or else you'll discover yourself in the standard cut of thick rough on the left or the water hazard that perimeters the entire right side of the fairway, then an approach shot over a finger of water to an elevated and contoured green. Since this course is located so near the County Park, it receives many wildlife visitors, mainly from the park's 10,000 strong, deer population. The greens are typically fast, and moguls in the fairways will cause many an uneven lie.

Very nice but very crowded, Apr 22, 2010 |

| Just moved to the area and heard from my neighbor that Mercer Oaks West was one of the nicer courses in the county. He wasn't lying. Tee boxes and fairways were all very well taken care of. Can't comment on the greens as they were just aerated. I have honestly never played a public course in this nice of shape. Started to feel like I was on a semi-private one instead. I went on a Monday at 12pm and it took 5 hrs to play a round due to the amount of people out there though. Felt like it was a Saturday afternoon in June. I could never see myself playing here on the weekends but would love to come back on another weekday, maybe when the weather isn't so nice. |

| Played the newer links style course and enjoyed it up until the last 3 holes when out of nowhere a single was pushing us from behind and the foursome ahead of us took 10 minutes on the greens. Some water comes into play. Back nine layout is slightly confusing. Greens run fast and pretty firm. Overall it is well maintained. Deer like the place too. My partner hit a ball near a golfer and he yelled back at us "fore!". My partner yelled back, "five!" |

Windy and Long But a Fair Test, Sep 30, 2004 |

| This county course has matured nicely over the last decade and while you may have a 5 hour round on the weekend, it is still an enjoyable track that will test most of the clubs in your bag. The course plays tough but fair and most holes allow you to see the challenge ahead. Very few (if any) blind shots and no trickery. If you play from the back tees, bring your canon, you'll need it. A cut above the average municipal course, well worth the cost even at non-resident rates. |

beautiful but crowded, Apr 07, 2004 |

| This is a beautiful course, but crowded. You have the usual mix of duffers and good but impatient golfers. The "signature hole", #17 can be hard to finish due to hundreds of geese and their droppings on the green. We often assume two putts and move on. However, the course is lovely, through woods and fields, not too difficult for the average golfer. Perhaps the new county course next to this one will relieve the crowding. |
