This outstanding public course offers three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. All three courses are very scenic and unique. Water hazards come into play on many holes, and more than 100,000 flowers adorn the courses with a variety of color. The premier course is the Woodside/Lakeside. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 2nd "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and for the same year it was ranked 57th among the "Top 75 Upscale Courses." They also rated it as the 18th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 22nd best for 1997-98. "GOLF Magazine" selected it 66th in the 1998 category of the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The Lakeside Course has open fairways and several strategically-placed water hazards. The signature hole is #9, a 365-yard, par 4, which includes a sand bunker in the shape of Dick Tracy. The reason for the Dick Tracy sand bunker is that the McCormick family, majority shareholders of the parent company of the Chicago Tribune (from which Dick Tracy came), created this course out of Col. McCormick's vast estate. The Woodside Course is heavily wooded and possesses many lakes that come into play. Hole #15, a 440-yard, par 4, is well known for its small and severely-sloped green. The Hillside Course is more forgiving than the others, however, hole #3, a 374-yard, par 4, is one of the most undulating holes ever designed by Roger Packard, featuring a green that is surrounded by mounds. This hole has been appropriately nick-named "Packard's Peak." In addition, "GOLF Magazine" rated this course as the 39th best under the 1996 category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The pro shop was voted among the "Top 100 Golf Shops In America" in 1995 by Golf Shop Operations. Fairways Restaurant overlooks the golf courses and serves breakfast and lunch during the golf season. On Sundays they serve a Sunday Brunch from 10 AM to 2 PM. During the summer they offer outdoor concerts at Cantigny at 3 PM on Sundays. In addition, tours of the Robert R. McCormick Country Home are available. The men's tees have an additional course rating and slope for ladies. Senior and junior discounts are available for nine hole rounds only.
