This shot placement course features many elevation changes. The fairways are wide open, and the greens are undulating and medium-sized. Water hazards (streams and ponds) come into play on eight holes. The signature hole is #12, a 153-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot from an elevated tee to a green that is surrounded by water on the front, back and right.

Course design is very poor. Clubhouse has nothing to offer and members are rednecks.

I played this course recently in an inter-club match and was really disappointed in the overall condition of the course and the caliber of the facilities and membership. The greens and fairways are acceptable but could be much better with proper mowing and care. The greens were recently re-done and were particularly disappointing. I found that they were very soft and ragged. Fairways had lots of grass but the grass was way too long. If they were cut at a proper length they would play much better, but my guess is that most of the membership would not like them because the members with whom I played complained about having to play the ball as they found it throuhout the entire round. The tees and fringes were very poor as well. Fringes appear to be suffering from many years of excessive overseeding. The tee boxes are bumpy and uneven as well. Several Oakwoods members who participated in the matches were top quality gentlemen, however, others were very questionable and had to be watched closely.

While the course is short, it puts a premium on placing the ball in the right place. The greens have been rebuilt and are both fast and steep. You will enjoy this course if you like strategic courses. And the 18th hole is a great way to finish!
