This short course has small greens that are only slightly sloped. There are many trees on the course, plus water hazards and sand bunkers frequently come into play. The most difficult hole is #13, a 428-yard, par 4, which has a ferocious downhill slope from off its tee box. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 6th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996.

Needs to mature; disappointed in condition, May 01, 2009
reviewer: Golf Fanatic from Elkton MD
Today, I played the Rock for the first time ever, with a partner who had played the course many times in the past. The course has undergone a complete renovation and had, IMO, character potential. However, it needs to mature before its true potential will be known. What was most disappointing to me is that they charged full rates while the course was in maintenance condition - the fairways had been hole punched, with the punches left all over the place. True, they were trying to clean things up, but on more than one hole, our balls came to rest in the middle of piles of plugs. As for the greens, call them sands because none of them had anything resembling turf on the top. I will play the Rock again, perhaps in a couple of months when things have grown in.

Friendly for older legs and knees, Feb 04, 2007
reviewer: CD Sutton II from Folcroft, PA
The nicest features of "The Rock" as we are apt to call her, are the walkability, mid-level challenges, and low fees. The latter may soon change, as the course is currently undergoing a major 2 year reconstruction. Driving by it recently (it is perfectly viewable from southbound I-95, just past Marsh Road), I was stunned by the new cart paths and landscaping improvements. The designers seem to have preserved the 'feel' of the course, while improving the overall look. I and many others are praying that the course remains public, with reasonable greens fees.

One of the oldest courses in Delaware,,,, May 26, 2005
reviewer: R.C. Lopez from Wilmington, Delaware
I grew up around Rock Manor and have seen many changes and improvements. As a kid I worked there in 1969 and one of the best improvements was the redesigning of #11 hole, thanks to Mr. U. Morales who did an excellent job at a minimal cost. The current superintendent J. Auldifred along with his retired father knew what they were doing and thanks to the rest of his crew the course is kept in great shape. Also want to acknowledge the board of directors and the city of Wilmington for their contribution. I still visit and play there on occasion and find that though it is not a long golf course it still presents challenges. The cost is reasonable compared to premium courses and that you do get your monies worth. I am looking forward to the planned improvements designated for the upcoming year. If you play, enjoy the scenery and appreciate the fact that you're playing in one of the oldest golf courses in Delaware and the region.

Good, Cheap, Short course, Jul 13, 2004
reviewer: Ryan from Wilmington, DE
$20 to golf 18 holes, if your going to complain about the condition of the course, which wasn't bad at all, then you need to go back to your country club. On 7/8/04 they were repairing the tee boxes on the 2nd hole. No frills kind of place, but it was not crowded during the later afternoon. You get what you pay for, but for beginners, and people that don't have thousands to spend on a membership, it's a great place to get your bearings and have fun.
