This course, which was built on an old plantation, has fairways that were cut through tall pine forests. It is a long and hilly course with only a few sand bunkers. However, there are water hazards coming into play on some holes. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 9th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996. It was also ranked as the 13th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 14th best in 1997-98.

| When I pay $75 to play, I expect the best. What you get at Porter's Neck is mediocre at best. (Layout, greens, pace of play) If you're in the area, drive 30 minutes north and play North Shore CC, at Snead's Ferry. Better course, and nearly half the price. |

Excellent design - miserable greens, Feb 24, 2004 |

| This is one of the best course designs on the east coast. A variety of shotmaking skills are required and skill levels required depend on the tees used. Number 9 is a magnificent hole. Unfortunately, the greens are 30 to 50% Poa, and putting is an adventure. With upgraded greens, the course would get 4.5 stars. |
