Very pleasantly surprised, Jun 02, 2010

Just played Wood River with some friends this week. Did not have great expectations but the course far exceeded them. It was very well maintained and had some very difficult holes. Looks completely flat but I found myself with uneven lies on almost every fairway. You do not want to miss the fairways or the short rough because the long rough is almost impossible. Greens are very small and hard to hit but that adds to challenge of the course. I would highly recommend a hidden jewel. Also the restaurant is very nice and clean and we had a nice meal. The service was a bit slow but the food was excellent.

"Tough fair course"
This course has fast greens and is kept in good shape. The fairways arent long but are tight in places. Nice layout with plenty of water and traps.

Fairly well kept course, the fairways are wide open for the most psrt, so if you lose your new Titlest, its your fault...There are a few water hazards in challengable spots. Bunkers are all easily avoidable. This is actually a challenging course, but one that wont drive you nuts with every stroke. Its also a pretty good course for those who arent, Arnold Palmer. You have to know your game, but it allows for mistakes, without costing you 3 strokes. The trees are beautiful, and the wildlife around the course adds to the experience. Its nice to find a place like this tucked among the city, and tall radio towers, which are right in the middle of the course, between holes nine and ten, which is the primary problem spot for this course. Its priced right, and a good challenge for the money.

Lost Key Golf Club
"Bring Balls"
Lost Key is a great layout with the best greens in the Gulfshores/Pensacola area. Although the greens are extremely fast they are very puttable if you are on the right side of the hole. The fairways are fairly tight with lateral hazzards down both sides of almost everyone. They should change the course name to Lost Balls. Great course for the money if you hit it fairly straight.
